Destination Weddings / St Albert Photographer

WeddingPhotography

Are you having a destination wedding?
We travel!

Yes, it is common to bring a photograper along on your destination wedding. It is the best way to have your day captured the way you want.
Here are a few reasons to bring along your own photographer.
- no language barrier
-you already have an established relationship which will keep you relaxed and at ease on your big day
- your photographer will only be photographing your wedding and can capture your day from start to finish. Unlike a resort photographer which may have more than one that day
-your photographer will see the location with fresh eyes and give you amazing one of a kind images
-your post production and album planning is done back home. Therefore you will get quality retouching and design and not just a quick cd burn before you run to the airport

Those are just a few great reasons to bring a photographer with you!

Destination packages are a custom quote but to give you a basic idea of where the investments start…. $2500 plus travel and accomodation.

Enjoy this beautiful warm Sunday!

Holidays / St Albert Photographer

FamilyPhotography

Today, I thought I would share a little peek into my personal world.

If you have been keeping tabs on me you will know that I was away for a couple weeks at the end of October. We were having a little holiday with some friends. Our trip started off with a visit to Disney, followed by a drive down in to Baja California MX and then back up into Palm Desert after a week or so.
It was a great couple of weeks. We had a great time in Disney, which I was unsure of. After all we don’t have kids so I was wondering if I would be entertained. But I was. I even went on some scary rides thanks to our friends 5yrs old. She told me what to expect on each ride and I figured if she could do it…..I could do it. And I did! The Tower of Terror was terrifying but in a good way. Rick got the feeling back in his arm very soon after I finished grabbing hold for my life.

Mexico was fantastic. We drove a couple of hours into Baja and stayed in a house near a small town. It was safe and it was beautiful. Very different from my many adventures in the Mayan. It was hot and dry. We had mountains behind us and looked out to the sea of Cortez. I got a lot of sun shine and Kindle time. It was sooooo quiet! We would literally be 5 of 7 or so people on the beach and when the tide went out we would head to the pool and see 2-4 other people. I was awesome!! We ended our trip with a few days of shopping in Palm Desert. All in all a great break!

Now for those of you wondering what sort of holiday photos a professional takes here is a peek. Guess what they are just like anyone’s holiday snaps. We use a crappy point and shoot camera and do a lot of self portraits. Taking turns with who gets to hold the camera out in front. We shoot our view and not much else. In fact we don’t even try to find good light.
Yes, sometimes I will shoot with my REAL camera’s. But it really isn’t much of a break if I am towing them around behind me making everyone crazy with stops to shoot. But I can tell you next time I will be using my REAL cameras. I was very inspired and have some great ideas brewing. So look out friends you are going to be modeling like crazy! Haha.

Enjoy,
Jill

Another Fall Family Session / St Albert Photographer

FamilyPhotography

As the weather starts to turn more and more winter like I long for those beautiful colors. (Insert sad sign here – Haha) By January I will probably pulling images from summer sessions so I can fantasize about sun shine and green. Oh winter, I have such a hard time with you.

Anyway, here is a little peek back a few weeks to a warmer time. The Semple Family. Wow, have the girls ever grown from our last session a couple years ago. And their sense of humor, funny! Dry and witty. My favorite kind. People always ask what my favorite thing to photograph is and my answer is always the same. It`s not a type or particular style I prefer. It is all about the people or the event. If it is fun and easy going then it is probably up there on my favorite list. This family is the perfect example of that. Easy going and funny. Happy and relaxed. Mix all of that with some good weather and a nice location and I am a very happy person!
Thanks for the fun times! I hope you enjoy your new wall collection.

Enjoy,
Jill

PS Next week we will share a couple of holiday portrait ideas!

Absolute Obsession / St Albert Photographer

Photography

One of my favorite things to do on a relaxing beach holiday is read! I find myself a spot on the beach or near the pool and settle in! I’m not much for the water. I have a little bit of a phobia so I love to perch near the water but rarely get in the water. Thus I get a lot of reading done. I will read a variety of books all at once. Something for every mood. This past trip I read Steven Tyler’s memoir, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and Absolute Obsession by C Elizabeth.
I enjoyed each book immensely. So I read a autobiography, a mystery/fantasy type novel, I have trouble classing Neil Gaiman, and a romance novel. I would recommend anyone of them!
Lets talk about the romance novel for a second. Not only is it Canadian but it is also local! The author lives right here in St Albert and I had the honor and pleasure of photographing her about a month ago. Yes, that is the beautiful and talented C Elizabeth to your right!
So if you are looking to start a new book give it go! A contemporary story of love and loss set in our own Alberta back yard.
Which reminds me I really should go in an update my Goodreads, I’m really bad for that. Definitely more of a reader than I am a writer!

Enjoy,
Jill

Child Portrait / St Albert Photographer

ChildPhotography

I’m home from a great holiday. I thought it would be best to update the blog since I have been gone for a couple of weeks.
I am very pleased that we were not welcomed by snow upon our return however it is sad that the autumn has lost its colorful glory.
Here is a peak from a session a few weeks back! When autumn was beginning to show us its amazing colors. One of my favorite little girls. Miss Gabriella and her 5th birthday session. She is looks so grown up. Hard to believe 5 years have passed since that very first portrait session.
I look forward to next year!

Enjoy,

My Family / St Albert Photographer

FamilyPhotography

There are so many things thing I could post on the blog right now. But I just can’t decide. I get like that when there are too many choices. I’m also trying to get ready to leave town for a bit which results in a sort of indecisive state of mind. I think it is the knowing I won’t be posting anything for a couple of weeks.
So what I have decided was a look at my recent portrait session and a wedding details post in the next couple days.

A couple weeks back Rick and I had a family session photographed by Brittany. Britt has been working here at the studio for about 2.5 yrs. I love having her around. Most days I’m surprised we get anything done.
It was a typical session with us. Rick goofs off, I give him a lecture about behaving, and Molly didn’t care to look at the camera.
Sounds like a typical family session with any family. One would think that after 13years in the photography industry my own little family would be able to breeze through a session and not result in a head switch to open eyes or put a good expression on a goofy expression. Good thing we didn’t drag the cats out of the house to join us. That would of been a full on gong show.

Anyway, here is a look at a few of our favorites. You can also have a look at Brittany’s post on her website!

Enjoy,
Jill

PS I will be anyway from October 18th to 30th. Brittany will be in a a couple of days a week to answer or return your calls and email. So if you need to order, pick up, schedule a consult or session etc. She will be here to help you in my absence.

Boschman family / St Albert Photographer

FamilyPhotography

Here is a little peek at the Boschman family from a couple of weeks ago. I have had the honor of photographing Christina and Shane a few times over the past 4 years. From their Jamaican wedding to their furry kids. Then their maternity session and newborn session. And Now…… They have grown in to a cute little family.

Hard to believe the last time I saw Jack was last summer when we did his new born session. Such a sweet tiny boy. Not so tiny now.
He has grown up to be a serious little man. But we did manage to get a few smiles out of him. Yup, between Mom’s tickles and my ability to make strange noises he just could resist.
Enjoy another beautiful autumn family!

Purrrrrrrrfect! / St Albert Pet Photographer

PetPhotography

Here is a furry little treat to enjoy before the weekend. A couple of weeks back I photographed these 2 robust orange tabby cats in their home. I know the images are sepia and you can’t see their orange coats but they look great in sepia. I just couldn’t resist.
Cats are often best photographed in their own place as they are not the best traveler’s. That and come on…they are cats. I know my 2 cats find most things beneath them so getting them to pose is not going to happen. Especially, when they think you are trying to take them to the vet. I mean why else would you have stuffed them into the carrier. I find natural is the best way to go with a cat.

Enjoy this small collection of Jake and Jenny. 2 purrrrrrfect little critters!

Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone! I know I am going enjoy my time. Bring on the pie!

Intimate Autumn Wedding / St Albert Photographer

WeddingPhotography

Here is a teaser from Dar and Lori’s intimate backyard wedding a few weeks back.
A beautiful autumn day with family at home. The perfect setting is always one that surrounds you with those most important in your life. So I would say it was perfect!

And on a side note The yard was great to work with. So many nice little areas to shoot in a small location. No common for many yards these days.

I hope you enjoy the peek! It was a pleasure meeting everyone. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Enjoy,
Jill
